Since the age of 12, I have been interested in American Sign Language (ASL) and the Deaf Culture. In my sixth grade year of Awana, I had a new leader who was Deaf. From then on I was hooked. God brought different people in my life to further my interest. Later, my neighbors adopted a deaf little boy from Ethiopia, Africa. He had no language at 7 years-old and gave me a passion in my heart to help those kids in other countries who are the same as this little boy.
As time went on my desire to work with the Deaf grew and I continued to meet more of the Deaf community. At the end of my senior year of high school I went with my youth group from church on a short-term Guatemala missions trip. While I was there I was talking to one of the missionaries about what I wanted to do and she told me about the Haiti Deaf Academy. I got in contact with them and about a year later, 2014, I took my first trip to Haiti. I fell in love with Haiti and the kids there. Haiti has become home and I am so thankful God has blessed me to be apart of the Haiti Deaf Academy and serve him in this way.
