Transition Home Operations Fund

Goal:              Operations fund for transition homes for young adults

The Transition Home Fund will allow the Haiti Deaf Academy to operate two homes in Leveque, offering a semi-independent living experience for students over 18 years of age. Students will apply for the privilege of living in the transition home and will be allowed to live in the home until they are employed or for a maximum of one year, whichever is sooner.

To qualify, students must be successfully participating in a vocational training program and must abide by house rules. Under the watchful eye of a supervisor, the independence of these students will be tested in a safe environment. They will continue their vocational training, while learning to budget, cook and do laundry and other essential life skills. Our measure of success is having our graduates educated and employed.  The transition homes are an important step in breaking the vicious cycle of poverty as these students become responsible adults and move out on their own.
